how are your new year's resolutions going?

Written by Deb Zavoyna on Monday, January 28 2013

We’re 4 weeks into the new year, so I figured it’s probably time to check in on my resolutions, don’t you think?  In case you missed it, The Fresh Start List can be found here.  It was my way of publicly declaring the things I hoped to work on this year.  So let’s take a look at how I’m doing, shall we?

Spend more quality time with Greg, Claire, and Jenna  It’s been happening!!  Dates with Greg and the girls.  Hanging out at home, eating out, shopping, manicures.  It’s all good.  This isn’t a hard one to fulfill.

Lose 20lbs  Let’s just say I’m not planning on getting on the scale anytime soon.  I’ve been on a continuous carb load for 2 weeks.  I’m stopping.  I swear.  What is with me and winter?  My body says hibernate!  Hibernate!!  And then it says make sure you eat a ton of crap before you hibernate.  So Spring needs to come asap.

Blog/write more  Sort of happening.  When I don’t write, I’m managing to put up pictures and stuff.  Give me some writing topics that you want to read about!  I’m realizing that you probably don’t want to read all about me and my misadventures 24/7.  All blogs are narcissistic to a certain degree, I suppose.  I just want to write about interesting stuff.  And yes I know, not everything I write is interesting.

Redecorate/freshen upstairs  Ain’t nothin’ happening.  I’m waiting on a paint quote.  Waiting to do any decorating until paint is done.  I fantasize a lot about it.  And pin stuff.  When it does happen, I’ll have pictures to prove it.

Read more books.  I’ve read 5. Working on #6.  I don’t watch tv and read mostly at night in bed.   Tear yourself away from the boob tube people.  You’ll be glad you did.  And you’ll be smarter.

Spend less time on internet  Slightly less.  Working on it.  I need to include my phone in this too.  Definitely more conscious of my time and not losing myself surfing the web.

Cook a whole lot more  I’m not sure how I define a whole lot.  But I have been cooking more.  I’ve done a couple awesome soups.    And more soup planned.  Going to do homemade meatballs for the first time.  Still ate out too much this month.

Exercise at least 4 times per week  Not good.  I fell off the wagon at the gym.  I did get more new running shoes yesterday.  Hoping to use them today.  It’s gonna be 60 something degrees.  So psyched.

Craft more  Nope.  Not at all.  Questioning if I really want to do this. I looovveee some handcrafted stuff, especially greeting cards or anything to do with beautiful papers.  It just doesn’t happen right now.

Take more pictures  Yep.  Taking lots of pictures.  Most of them bad.  But occasionally I get some good ones.  Check out Saturday Snapshots...on Saturdays!

Go to more shows (like the theater)  We saw a Cirque show in January.  So fun.  More to come.  We have The Little Mermaid (ballet) and the American Girl Doll Fashion Show coming up.  Oh and a good friend and I are ushering a show and get to see 9 to 5.  How fun is that?

Keep my house neater and more organized  Um. Sort of good.  It’s been a little challenging with the kids out of school so much this month.  But I’ve mostly been successful.  I just rearranged my shoes.  And no, I’m not kidding.

Spend more time outside  I’ve been trying.  There’s been hiking and a little exercise.  I’ll be outside after bus today for sure.

So I’m having some success... but not a lot.  I did print my list and have it hanging next to my desk.  I look at it every day.  I promise I won’t bother you with my list of self improvement every month.  That would be boring.  You’re probably yawning now and saying “why the heck did she write this boring post?”  But I might check in, in June or something.

How are your resolutions or Fresh Start list going?
